Expresso Panna Cotta

Silky, elegant, and infused with espresso—this Italian dessert is deceptively simple yet utterly impressive. The gentle bitterness of coffee balances the cream's richness, creating a sophisticated finish to any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp espresso powder (or 1/4 cup strong brewed espresso)
  • 2 tsp gelatin powder
  • 3 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bloom the gelatin: Sprinkle gelatin over cold water in a small bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat cream mixture: In a saucepan, combine cream, milk, sugar, and espresso powder. Heat over medium until sugar dissolves and mixture is warm (do not boil).
  3. Add gelatin: Remove from heat and whisk in bloomed gelatin and vanilla until fully dissolved.
  4. Pour and chill: Divide mixture among 4-6 ramekins or serving glasses. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until set.
  5. Serve: Dust with cocoa powder or top with chocolate shavings just before serving.
